Selling & Trading Policy

Selling & Trading Policy

At Austin Block Shop, we evaluate LEGO® collections based on current market conditions, item condition, and processing costs. We do not guarantee a set price for any LEGO® items, as our offers are determined by a variety of factors, including cleaning, sorting, and shipping expenses.

Requesting a Quote

If you’d like a price estimate before sending in your LEGO®, we’re happy to provide one. However, quotes are only estimates and may change if the items received differ from the original description. If you send LEGO® to us without requesting a quote first, we will assess the collection and make an offer based on what we believe is fair. Please note that we cannot return items if you are unsatisfied with the final offer.

Cash vs. Trade-In Value

For those looking to trade, we offer store credit at approximately double the cash value. This means you’ll get the most value by opting for store credit instead of a direct payout.

To sell or trade LEGO® through the mail, you must be at least 18 years old or have a parent or guardian handle the transaction.

How We Determine LEGO® Value

If you’re wondering how much your LEGO® collection might be worth, here’s a general breakdown of our pricing:

LEGO® Sets – We typically offer around 45% of fair market value for sets in various conditions. This applies to sealed, built, and incomplete sets. If a set is missing a significant number of pieces, we may classify it as bulk LEGO®.

Bulk LEGO® – We generally pay $0.75–$2 per pound, depending on what’s included and the overall condition. Bulk LEGO® often contains non-LEGO® items, such as off-brand bricks, action figures, toy cars, and other miscellaneous pieces. We take this into account when making offers, so there’s no need to pre-sort your collection.

Sorting & Completeness – Many sellers assume they have complete sets when their LEGO® is stored in bins or mixed with other pieces. While some collectors enjoy sorting and rebuilding sets, it is typically too time-intensive to be practical for resale. Because of this, missing pieces and incomplete sets generally result in a lower valuation.

Condition & Depreciation – Just like other collectibles, LEGO® sets decrease in value once opened and used. A set’s value depends on its completeness, condition, and included components (e.g., minifigures, instructions, sticker placement). Even sets that appear complete may still be missing small but important parts, which can impact the resale price.
